손영래 중앙사고수습본부 사회전략반장은 23일 오전 정례브리핑에서 “이제부터는 생활치유센터와 요양병원의 경증·중등증 환자에 대해서도 항체치료제를 투여하기 위해 제공손님을 확대완료한다”고 밝혀졌다. 단계적 일상회복을 시작한 직후 확진자 수가 급하강한 가운데 위중증 병자 숫자도 크게 불어난 데 따른 조치다. 경증·중등증 환자를 우선적으로 치유해, 중증환자로 악화되지 않도록 사전 예비있다는 취지다.

셀트리온 측은 며칠전 하루 평균 확진자가 3000명대인 것을 감안해, 이 중에 약 30%(약 900명)에 렉키로나를 투여한다고 가정하면, 하루 중병자 생성 숫자를 74명까지 줄일 수 있어 의료 부담에 숨통이 트인다고 보고 있을 것이다. 셀트리온 지인은 “렉키로나 공급 확장이 위중증 이환 감소에 큰 힘이 될 것으로 기대끝낸다”며 “렉키로나가 코로나바이러스 치료에 적극 사용될 수 있게 제공에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

이 프로젝트의 총괄 책임자인 울산대병원 이동연 국제사업본부장은 '1990년대 후반 미국 미네소타 프로젝트로 우리나라 의료가 눈부시게 성장한 것처럼 대한민국도 2030년부터 이종욱-세종 프로젝트를 통해 저개발 국가에 의료기술을 전수하는 산업을 일괄되게 진행해오고 있을 것이다'며 'UHS 병원 건립 컨설팅도 그 일환의 하나로서 라오스 최초의 국립대병원 건립이라는 공공성과 상징성 측면에서 의미가 크다'고 이야기했었다.
