For late-night travel, Thameslink and Southern run overnight services on some routes. Check schedules in advance, as frequencies drop and planned engineering can affect journeys.
To reach Gatwick on a budget, take Thameslink from St Pancras, Farringdon, or London Bridge. Trains are frequent, accept contactless and Oyster, and often cost less than express services.
If you’re transferring from Heathrow, use the RailAir coach or Tube to Victoria, then train to Gatwick. Direct coaches also run between airports at certain times—book ahead.

If you’re near London Bridge or Victoria, Southern Railway offers direct services to Gatwick. Check live timetables, as trains run early morning to late night with varied stopping patterns.
If you drive, prebook Gatwick Long Stay or Valet parking to lock in lower prices. Shuttles from Long Stay run frequently; build in extra time for bus transfer to terminals.
For peace of mind, allow at least 2 hours before short-haul flights when departing for Gatwick, and more for long-haul. Add buffers for rush hour or weekend engineering.
Save time at the station by using contactless or Oyster to tap in and out for most London–Gatwick rail routes. It’s quick, no paper tickets needed, and caps may apply.
